Projects and regions

Project references, regions and the lifecycle of a project.

#Project reference

Every project has a reference ID of 16 lowercase letters, used in its URL https://<project-ref>.p.stitchdb.com and in its database name and user.

#Regions

Choose a region when you create a project; "Closest available" is the default. The region determines where the database and files are stored and is shown with its flag on the project. You can move it to another region later.

#Move to another region

In Settings → General → Region, owners and admins choose Move to another region…, pick a region and when to move: now, at a quiet hour (3:00 where the project runs today) or at a time within the next 14 days. A scheduled move can be cancelled until it starts.

  • Everything moves: database, users, files, Edge Functions, scheduled jobs and settings.
  • The project stays online. The data is copied while your app keeps working; during the switch writes wait about a second and none are dropped.
  • Your API URL, keys and connection strings stay the same. Direct Postgres sessions (port 5432) are closed once, up to 10 minutes after the switch, and reconnect on their own.
  • Afterwards Settings → Database shows a faster connection string for the new region; the old one keeps working but takes a detour through the old region.
  • The dialog shows the database size and how long the copy takes. The owner gets an e-mail when the move finishes, or if it does not (the project then keeps running where it was).
  • Branches move with their main project. Projects on a dedicated server change server under Settings → Compute.

A move that does not finish is not counted. From the Management API: GET, POST { region, when } and DELETE on /v1/projects/<ref>/region-move.

PausedNobody used the account for a year, so its Free project was paused (or it was paused through the Management API). Restore it from its page; see Inactive free projects.
DeletingThe project and its data are being removed.
FailedCreation did not complete. Delete the project and create it again.
SuspendedAccess was suspended by the StitchDB team.

#Restart services

From Settings → General you can restart the Auth and REST API services. Your data is not affected.

#Sleeping services on Free

On the Free plan, a project's Auth and REST services go to sleep after 60 minutes without API requests. The database stays online, and the next request wakes them up within a few seconds.

#Delete a project

Deleting a project (type its name to confirm) permanently deletes its database, data, users, files and API keys. It cannot be undone. Projects can't be renamed or transferred to another account.
